Article - Eight Common Mistakes First-Time Entrepreneurs Should Ditch in 2017

Author Christina Nicholson has combined the advice and expertise of several successful entrepreneurs and business professionals in the article, “Eight Common Mistakes First-Time Entrepreneurs Should Ditch in 2017," found on Fast Company's website.

If you have big plans for your business in 2017, and I’m hoping that you do, this is a great article to help you steer clear of some of the traps entrepreneurs fall into when they first start off on their entrepreneurial endeavors.

The author lists eight very important opportunities for entrepreneurs, and of the eight listed, the mistakes that stood out, from my experience, are trying to network inauthentically, a fear of spending money on your brand, and failing to self-promote and make the sale.

Networking is crucial, but not knowing how to network can be devastating.  If you struggle in this area, take some time to work on this skill.  Practice, do research, and find a “networking buddy” to get feedback, as well as someone to attend events with you.

Face it, the money that you are spending is coming out of your own pocket, in most cases, which may cause many entrepreneurs to cut corners.  But as the article states, “don’t cut corners where it really counts.”

Your business is your vision, and you need to be able to convey your service and/or product with confidence.  As the article states, “self-promotion is a necessary evil.”

I found this article very beneficial!  Be sure to check out the article for more information, and most importantly, be sure the eight mistakes listed are not yours in 2017.
